My Favorite Charlottesville Neighborhoods East Of The City

There are so many Charlottesville realtors that it surprises me that there is enough business for everyone. However, some Charlottesville realtors do better than others.

When I joined Farmington Country Club in 1998, the membership threw a cocktail party for the new members. The minute I walked into the party; I was surrounded by 7-8 very attractive women. Wow I thought, as I looked over at my wife, this is going to be a fun club. Turns out all the ladies were Charlottesville realtors and were ONLY interested in knowing if I was planning to purchase a Charlottesville home!

Moving on, we’re going to the west of the City of Charlottesville and discuss my favorite neighborhoods of which there are three…Ashcroft, Glenmore homes, and Keswick Estate.

Ashcroft is across the street from the new Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital so it’s perfect for doctors. It’s a wonderful mountaintop community developed and built by one builder/owner, RL Beyer. RL has a great reputation and is mindful of what the residents want and need. Plenty of greenspace, walking trails, a pool, clubhouse for wild parties, and tennis court. The Blue Ridge Mountain views are spectacular. I give this a 9 out of 10. Why not a 10? Mountain fog and weather can be a beast in the winter.

Glenmore real estate is my favorite place to buy east of Charlottesville and one of my top 5 overall. It’s a friendly, gated community, with just about every amenity possible from excellent food, a fabulous clubhouse, a professional 18-hole golf course, swimming pool and swim club, and tennis/pickleball! The landscape is rolling, and the views of the nearby Southwest Mountains are lovely at sunset. Definitely put Glenmore homes on your list to see. I give Glenmore real estate a 10.

Finally, there’s the chic and private Keswick Estate. Yes, it’s called Keswick Estate, but it seems as though it should be Keswick Estates. What was the developer thinking! The developer, by the way, was Lord Ashley, interior decorator guru, Laura Ashley’s husband. Keswick Estate sits on the grounds of the magnificent and marvelous Keswick Hall & Resort. There is a newer 18-hole, Pete Dye course. Great tennis club with fun members. A comfortable pool, and finally, Chef Jean-George Vongerichten’s new restaurant, Marigold, is here. And for those who fox hunt, why not join the oldest hunt in America, the Keswick Hunt, located just outside the gates.

I give it an 8 out of 10. So, what is there not to love? Two minor things…I-64 traffic can be heard in winter on the southern lots. And it’s just too private behind that big gate.

Keswick Estate real estate is for those who love sports and love their privacy. A bit too private for me. I like to see everyone including lots of kids biking by and having a ball. But still fabulous!
